Magnolia virginiana x grandiflora Group
Overview
Interspecifid hybrid of M. virginiana x grandiflora, often referred to as Freeman hybrids. Both parents belong to Magnolia section Theorhodon. The primary hybrids are evergreen and strongly resemble M. grandiflora (pollenplant); influence of M. virginiana is only visible after careful observation. First hybrids of ♀ M. virginiana x ♂ M. grandiflora created by O.M. Freeman at the National Arboretum, United States, in 1930.
