Overview

Pink Tulip Tree. Originates from sheltered valleys in the Himalay of Asia. Medium-sized to large deciduous tree. Very large, white to dark pink flowers (15-25(-35) cm). Upright flowers appear before the leaves. Innermost tepals remain erect while the others spread widely. Sensitive to late night frosts. Requires a deep, moist soil and sheltered site. Trees take a long time to reach flowering age. The species was first described by Joseph Dalton Hooker and Thomas Thomson in 1855.
