Overview

Small deciduous tree. Native to forests in Asia (China) at 1300-2400 m altitude. Early flowering, before the leaves. Upright cup-shaped white to pink red flowers. Fragrant. Dark green leaves (10-18 cm). Yellow autumn colour. Named after botanist Carl Ludwig Sprenger. Recommended species for landscaping, often used in hybridizing of Magnolia.
