Abiotic factors

Opposite of abiotic (environmental) factors. Non-biological environmental factors that affect plant growth and development in a specific ecosystem. Abiotic factors influence the (micro-)climate that plants experience. Examples of abiotic factors:

  • Soil properties (texture, salinity, acidity)
  • Water properties (rainfall, irrigation, pH)
  • Air properties (humidity, wind)
  • Temperature (seasonality, daily variation, minimum, average, maximum)
  • Sunlight properties (light quantity, light quality, daylength)
